Anderson was born in Elgin, Illinois and graduated from Illinois State Normal University. In WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps, and taught low level flying in B25's.  Anderson was a professor of art at the University of Florida before relocating to Connecticut, where he was a co-founder of the Danbury Academy of the Arts, and an active member of the Famous Artist School (Westport), and the Art Associations in Sherman and Housatonic Art Leagues. He worked from his home and studio in Brookfield from the 1960's until the late 1990's.
