David Grose was born and raised in Amherst, MA, in a family of artists. His grandmother supported the family with paintings that were to become prints for the Prang Print Co. run Boston. Her brother was the notable painter Abbot Thayer, and his cousin was married to Rockwell Kent. David served in the US Navy during WW2 and graduated from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He also studied at the Art Student’s League under Harry Sternberg and Will Barnett. After working in NYC for many years, David moved his studio to Cape Cod in 1954, where he focused on silkscreen and pochoirs.
